Introduction

This Privacy Policy explains how Piyush Duggal (“we”, “us”, or “our”) handles data in the WhatsApp Group Chat Summarizer Chrome extension (“the Extension”). The Extension helps you generate concise summaries of your WhatsApp Web group chats.

What Data We Collect

• Personal data: We do not collect, sell, or rent personal information.
• Chat content: Messages are read from the active WhatsApp Web tab locally in your browser to generate a summary.
• Preferences: We may store non-sensitive settings (e.g., number of messages to summarize, language) using Chrome’s storage API.

How Your Data Is Used

• Chat content is processed only to produce a summary you request.
• We do not use your data for advertising or profiling.
• We do not transfer chat data to servers controlled by us.

Third-Party Processing (AI)

To generate summaries, selected message text may be sent to Google’s Gemini API for processing. Handling of that data is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy. We do not allow third parties to use this data for purposes other than generating the requested summary.

Permissions We Use (and Why)

• activeTab & tabs: Access the currently active WhatsApp Web tab when you initiate a summary.
• scripting: Inject content scripts to read visible messages from the page DOM.
• sidePanel: Display summaries alongside WhatsApp Web in a convenient panel.
• host_permissions (https://web.whatsapp.com/*): Restrict operation to WhatsApp Web only.
• storage: Save your local preferences (e.g., summary length, language).

These permissions are used solely to provide core functionality and improve your experience.

Data Retention

• Chat content is processed in-memory and is not persisted by us.
• Optional local settings are stored until you clear extension data or uninstall the Extension.

Children’s Privacy

The Extension is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Your Choices & Control

• You control when summaries are generated; processing occurs only on demand.
• You can clear extension data via your browser settings.
• You can uninstall the Extension at any time to stop all processing.

Security

We follow the Chrome Extensions platform’s security model and avoid remote code execution. Scripts are bundled with the Extension and run in the browser context.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Updates will be posted on this page with a new “Effective date”.
